Field: Circadian Clocks and Photoperiodic Time Measurment

Research Interest: Many human pathologies, such as sleep disorders, are likely to have a circadian defect and increasing our knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involved in circadian clock regulation could help us design novel treatments for those diseases. Light is a major environmental input to the clock and the aim of my research is to understand how light controls the circadian oscillator. Given that a great deal is known about phototransduction in plants, I will use Arabidopsis thaliana as the model system The homology recently found between clock photoreceptors in plants and animals suggests that elucidation of the phototransduction pathway in Arabidopsis will have a broad impact for studies in animal systems.
